DOUGLAS FIR HIRAKAKU

Sustainable Supply

Douglas fir products are widely available and readily supplied. This species grows abundantly throughout the Pacific Northwest on more than 14 million hectares of timberlands. These lands are governed by strict local, state and federal laws related to harvesting and reforestation practices, with additional protection for ecosystems, habitats, watersheds, soils, and biological diversity. Many producers in the Pacific Northwest region are becoming independently certified for the sustainability of their products.

Second-growth Douglas fir timber provides the finest resource in the world for milling into solid-sawn HIRAKAKU. With the perfect soils, temperatures and rainfall of its native region and managed in natural stands on long rotations of 40 to 80 years, these trees develop the unmatched combination of natural characteristics and physical working properties that makes Douglas fir ideally suited for the high strength/fine appearance requirements of traditional HIRAKAKU.
