Association Membership
Alaska Department of Commerce (ADC) -
The Alaska Department of Commerce is a state agency works
with private sectors and communities in creating new jobs for Alaskans,
strengthening Alaska's competitiveness in the world marketplace and maintaining
a fair consistent business regulatory environment in the state.
American
Institute of Timber Construction (AITC) - The AITC is the national
te chnical trade association of the structural glued
laminated timber manufacturers in the U.S. in addition to
a number of installers, suppliers, sales representatives,
engineers, architects, designers, and researchers.
Utilizing the professional talents and extensive
experience of its membership base, AITC developed,
sponsored and continues to maintain the American National
Standard for Structural Glued Laminated Timber. This
standard may be identified with the AITC Quality
Inspected grademark, the symbol of quality in engineered
timber for 35 years. The recognition of AITC as the
authority in the laminated timber industry is the direct
result of the collaborative efforts of its members in the
development and maintenance of today's industry design
and product standards, the establishment of the benchmark
industry quality assurance, inspection, grademark program
and laminated timber research.
American Lumber Standard Committee (ALSC)-The
American Lumber Standard Committee Incorporated (ALSC), is a non-profit
organization incorporated in the State of Maryland. The ALSC, comprised
of manufacturers, distributors, users, and consumers of lumber, serves
as the standing committee for the American Softwood Lumber Standard
(Voluntary Product Standard 20) and in accordance with PS 20,
administers an accreditation program for the grade marking of lumber
produced under the system. That system, the American Lumber Standard (ALS)
system, is an integral part of the lumber industry's economy and is the
basis for the sale and purchase of virtually all softwood lumber traded
in North America. The ALS system also provides the basis for acceptance
of lumber and design values for lumber by the building codes throughout
the United States.
The Center
for International Trade in Forest Products - Addresses opportunities and
problems related to the international trade of wood and
fiber products. Emphasizing forest economics and policy
analysis, international marketing, technology development
and value added forest products, CINTRAFOR's work results
in a variety of publications, professional gatherings,
and consultations with public policymakers, industry
representatives, and community members. Located in the
Pacific Northwest, Cintrafor is administered through the
College of Forest Resources at the University of
Washington and is supported by state, federal, and
private grants. The Center's interdisciplinary research
is carried out and through cooperative arrangements with
professional groups,and individuals.
Colorado
State University- College of Engineering-- The Department of Civil and
Enviromental Engineering offers a rich and diverse program of coursework and
research opportunities, from "wet" areas like hydrology and stream restoration
to "dry" structural and geotechnical engineering.
The Evergreen Building Products Association (EBPA)
The Evergreen Building Products
Association is a private, non-profit trade association
comprised of over 120 building material manufacturers,
consolidators, resident/light commercial construction and
service related companies. The Association serves the
membership by providing leadership and developing key
programs that increase competitiveness and assist its
members in identifying new domestic and international
marketing opportunities. The Association was created to
provide the international housing and building materials
industries with a focal point - an organization
networking all of the key elements in the transaction
equation. The diverse membership base ensures a broad
representation of all sectors that have a financial stake
in the viability of these important industries. The
Association works to strengthen the industry and its
membership by promoting activities and programs that
address education and training, international market
promotion and technical transfer needs of the
international housing and building products industries.
Idaho Department of Commerce
- The mission of the Idaho Department of Commerce is to assist Idaho firms
to develop
market expertise, make business contacts and improve their ability to compete in the global
marketplace by participating in Governor-led trade missions, attending targeted industry specific trade shows and
making personal sales calls to businesses abroad.
Maine International Trade Center
-The Maine
International Trade Center (MITC) is Maine's center for international
business assistance. Formed in 1996, the Trade Center provides technical
assistance and trade counseling, import and export leads, international
credit reports, workshops, coordinated trade missions and trade shows,
and many other useful services to help Maine companies seeking to
succeed in international markets. MITC offers global exposure to
Maine's small and medium sized businesses.
Northeastern Lumber Manufacturers
Association (NELMA)
Established
1933, NELMA is the rules writing agency for Eastern White Pine and the
grading authority for Eastern Spruce, Balsam Fir, Spruce Pine Fir
species grouping and other commercially important eastern softwood
lumber species.
North
American Wholesale Lumber Association (NAWLA) - For 106 years, NAWLA has been a
leader in the support of interests of forest products
distributors in an ever-changing industry. NAWLA is an
international trade association of over 500 leading
wholesalers and manufacturers throughout the United
States and Canada. NAWLA wholesalers and wholesaler-processor
members, whose combined 1997 sales were over $17 billion,
are dedicated to maintaining the integrity of lumber
distribution and to the responsible use of forest
resources. As the unifying force for efficient
distribution, NAWLA serves as an educator and counselor
on issues within the forest products industry. NAWLA
provides publications and learning tools for its
membership to better understand current trends and
opportunities in the forest products industry.
Oregon
Economic and Community Development Department (OECDD) - The OECDD is a state
agency that works with and for Oregonians to build
communities and strong businesses. OECDD help Oregon
businesses and industries compete globally by developing
and expanding export markets including softwood lumber
products. Markets of particular focus include Japan,
Korea, Taiwan, China, Southeast Asia, Argentina, Brazil,
Chile, Mexico, Canada and Western Europe.
Oregon
State University - Wood
Science and Engineering - The OSU Department of Wood Science and
Engineering is one of the largest university forest
products science and technology programs in North
American. Programs include options in Wood Industry
Management and Wood Science and Engineering. Research
programs are varied and multidisciplinary, ranging from
microbiology to Marketing, from structural engineering to
chemistry, from composite materials science to wood
quality, and many others.
Pacific Lumber Exporters Association (PLEA)
- In the
forest products industry, the members of the Pacific
Lumber Exporters Association provide consumers with the
service, reliability and experience that is demanded
within the industry. PLEA members supply softwood and
hardwood lumber, lumber by-products, panel products and
value added products. Since 1923 the Associations members
have worked diligently to provide quality ensured
products at competitive international prices and
providing solutions to specific market needs.
Pacific Lumber Inspection Bureau (PLIB) - The Pacific Lumber
Inspection Bureau, headquartered in Federal Way, Washington
and operating since 1903, is a non-profit lumber quality
inspection bureau. It provides services in a uniform
manner and in accordance with specifications of a
contract between buyer and sellers to lumber
manufacturers and or re-manufacturers in Western Oregon
and Washington, in the U.S. and the Southern Interior of
British Columbia, Canada. It provides supervision of
grading and or grade stamping of lumber with its
registered logo at 32 member mills in the U.S. and 15 in
British Columbia for shipment in either the foreign or
domestic trade. Both the American Lumber Standard
committee and the Canadian Lumber Standards Accreditation
Board approve its facilities.
Portland Community College Small
Business Development Center-- The Small Business
Development Center (SBDC) is one of 19 SBDC"s in the State of Oregon. It is part
of the Oregon Small Business Development Center Network and is funded by the
U.S. Small Business Administration, the Oregon Economic and Community
Development Department and is hosted by Portland Community College.

Products
Program
The purpose of this project is economic development. The development
process requires information about the markets for the Alaskan
softwood products. This
program is designed to generate required information and transfer it
to the softwood industry. Alaska
sawmills that
market products in accordance with the developed information should be
able to increase the value of sales by 10 percent. Such an increase
would represent $2.3 million increase in sales.
Washington
State Trade & Economic Development (OTED)
- OTED is a state agency that assists
small and mid size businesses in Washington State compete successfully
in the global economy. The division provides services for the
businesses such as, specific product market information for individual
products and foreign markets, technical
information on product standards, licensing, labeling and product
certification and organizing workshops and seminars to provide
accurate and timely information to Washington businesses on issues
related to doing business abroad.
West Coast Lumber Inspection
Bureau (WCLIB) -
The WCLIB is a non-profit service organization serving
over 92 western mills. The primary objective of the WCLIB
is the development and maintenance of uniform lumber
standards. The WCLIB provides grading supervision service, reinspection, and transient inspection services for solid
sawn softwood lumber. The present WCLIB was established
as an independent organization in 1968 and has been and
remains a leader in lumber grading and grade
standardization in the U.S. The West Coast Lumber
Inspection Bureau is one of six lumber grading rules
writing agencies in the United States accredited by the
American Lumber Standard Committee, Inc. which write and
publish grading rules, and supervise lumber grading.

Moulding & Millwork
Producers Association (WMMPA)- The WMMPA is an international trade
association for manufacturers of hardwood and softwood mouldings, interior and exterior door frames and jambs,
plank paneling and related millwork products. WMMPA's
primary goals are to promote quality products produced by
its members, develop sources of supply, promotes optimum
use of raw materials, standardize industry products and
to increase the domestic and foreign usage of moulding
and millwork products. The functions of the Association
provides the necessary tools, information and services
necessary to assist members achieve increased sales and
profitability.
