Australia

Once a fairly significant market for U.S. softwood lumber, Australia’s softwood demand is now largely fulfilled by plantation-grown radiata pine from New Zealand and domestically grown wood. Nevertheless, softwood exports to Australia from the U.S. have been growing in recent years, fueled by demand for 2x4 Douglas fir “scattling” and western red cedar siding. In 2010, U.S. exports to Australia were more than six mmbf, better than double the amount shipped in 2009.
