The SEC joined the APA-The Engineered Wood Association in the American Softwoods display booth at the annual Architecture and Construction Materials Show, earlier this month in Tokyo.  This industry focused show attracts wholesalers, architects, builders and designers in Japan.  There were 154,206 registered visitors during the 4 day run on the show.  Unlike other trade shows, the focus here was the dissemination of information on the design, and use of US softwood products.  There were a large number of requests for product standards and specifications and design literature was a popular item.

The booth featured U.S. softwood lumber for post and beam construction and engineered wood products including Glulams made with Douglas fir and Southern Pine, Plywood, and OSB.   Photo panels featured recent heavy timber and Glulam construction in Japan.  Designers were intrigued by the heavy timber use for modern designs and also had questions on JAS certification and on forest management systems in the USA.

American Softwoods staff was joined by the new AFPA Director and the USDA Forest Products specialist in Japan, as well as SEC and APA representatives.
