|
By Xu Fang
According to Global Trade Stats, US softwood
lumber (HS 440710) exports in China were valued
at US$ 26.3 million, down 1% in volume and 15%
in value from 2007. Local importers indicated
that even though they imported almost the same
volume as previous year the total value
decreased in 2008 due to the lower unit price
compared with 2007.
Interestingly, China's statistic data released
through GTA indicated that China's import of US
softwood lumber in 2008 was 87,000 m3 and US$
26.5 million, actually up 15.1% in volume and
12.3% in value from 2007.
Severe Challenge

curtail their production. China's MDF

entering into from- bad- to- worse stage.
Following the closure of several hundred
furniture manufacturers in 2008, it is
expected that there are more mills shutdown
in March or April.
