Current specific initiatives include:

  • The SEC maintains international staff and offices in Tokyo, London, Shanghai, and Mexico City, providing U.S. producers with direct industry and user contacts in more than 40 countries.
  • Members participate in numerous trade shows each year. Trade shows provide direct product promotion, consumer education, market research and generate trade leads for the U.S. industry.
  • SEC offers technical seminars on a variety of topics pertinent to market development effort. These seminars provide important market education opportunities in foreign countries while also giving SEC members a chance to meet prospective partners and learn first-hand about prospective markets.
  • Advertising and product publicity provides in-country exposure for products and their uses, availability, and species characteristics.
  • SEC offers technical literature and other publications on topics such as softwood lumber grades, softwood species books, interior design, wood moulding and millwork and buyers information.
  • Reverse trade missions to the U.S. are conducted on specific products and their uses and provide direct buyer contacts.
  • Magazine and newspaper editor educational tours provide general US product publicity, members’ products and companies featured in the article generated by the Press Tours.
  • In-country trade servicing and in-country technical support.
  • Market research and development benefits future market opportunities with U.S. industry intelligence.
